Chapter 23 - Odysseus and Penelope



Summary: (Jasmine)


In this chapter Penelpoe finds out that Odysseus is back from Eurycleia and she doesn't believer her. As a result she asks if she could move her bed which made odyessus angry because it's apart of this. But when he was expressing his anger he use very specfic details which mde penelope realize that it really was Odyseeus. Then they got caught up and Odysseus said that they have to lay low for awhille because he just killed all the noble men of Ithaca. So he and Telemachus leave while penelope stays in her room and can't have company.

She thinks that the gods have driven Eurycleia crazy and she thinks Eurycleia is lying to her. Once she realizes Eurycleia is not lying, she starts crying and hugs her.

What does Odysseus suggest doing to prevent the town from hearing about the suitors’ deaths right away? (Sukie)

How does Penelope test Odysseus? (Sukie)
She tells Eurycleia to move his bed and then he gets angry and starts to describe his bed. Only Odysseus would know what his bed looks like so she will know if its him.

He made it himself and had no help making it. Its made out of olive trees and it has a roof and a door. The branches of the olive tree are the bedposts. Then across the frame, there are gold, silver, and ivory straps.
